In a large mixing bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, salt, and yeast.
In a separate bowl, combine milk, water, and melted butter.
Add wet ingredients to dry ingredients, along with an egg. Stir until a soft dough forms.
Knead the dough on a floured surface for 5-10 minutes or until the dough is smooth and elastic.
Place the dough in a greased bowl and cover it with a damp towel. Let it rise in a warm place until it doubles in size, about 1 hour.
