Traditional Challah Bread with a Sweet Honey Glaze

This traditional challah bread recipe is perfect for any occasion. The sweet honey glaze adds a delightful touch to this classic bread. Serve it warm with butter or jam for a delicious breakfast or brunch.

Ingredients

  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 teaspoons salt
  • 2 1/4 teaspoons active dry yeast
  • 1 cup warm water
  • 1/4 cup vegetable oil
  • 2 large eggs, lightly beaten
  • 1 egg yolk, for brushing the bread
  • 1/4 cup honey
  • 1 tablespoon warm water
  • 1/4 teaspoon cinnamon

Instructions

In a large bowl, combine flour, sugar, salt, and yeast. Mix well.
In another bowl, mix warm water, vegetable oil, and eggs together.

Add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients and stir until the dough comes together.
Turn the dough out onto a floured surface and knead for 10 minutes until it is smooth and elastic.

Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover it with plastic wrap, and let it rise in a warm place for 1 hour.

Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).

Divide the dough into three equal pieces and braid the dough into a loaf.

Mix the egg yolk and 1 tablespoon of water together, and brush the loaf with the egg wash.

In a small bowl, mix honey, 1 tablespoon of warm water, and cinnamon together. Brush the mixture over the bread.

Bake the bread for 30-35 minutes or until it is golden brown.

Let the bread cool on a wire rack before slicing and serving.
